MELVIN OTT, Ph.D.
Melvin Ott, PhD has over 20 years progressive experience in project management, statistical
analysis, forecasting, data management, and university instruction. Plus he has designed and conducted numerous research
studies. Current research interest is in the application of logistic regression models, and ROC curves in banking and
delivered a paper at two International Conferences on threshold levels for logistic regression in health care and in banking
in May and October 2006. Prepared a paper for the ASA conference in Salt Lake City in August 2007 on “Decision
Rules for Logistic Regression Models”. Spoke at the ASA conference August 2010 in Vancouver BC on "Simulation
for Golf Resort Scheduling".
Dr Ott provided the study design and analysis for a Conjoint Analysis study for
AIDS prevention in South Africa and Dominican Republic. Conjoint analysis identified the best design
features for an AIDS prevention product. Demographic characteristics identified the population at risk.
He performed a statistical analysis of Spine Surgery Data for Publication.
For this study, he applied Fishers Exact Test to assess surgery methods vs. complication rates for publication.
Dr Ott currently teaches in the graduate program in Predictive
Analytics at Northwestern University and has been an Adjunct Professor at Gonzaga University, Whitworth College and
Eastern Washington University, Spokane, WA. He teaches courses in Predictive Analytics, and has taught Market Research
and the Analysis of Demographic Data and Statistical Design in the MBA Program. He also has taught SAS JMP, SAS Studio
and SAS v9 Enterprise Guide software that trains students to perform statistical analysis on large complex databases.
at a large medical center in Spokane, WA, he provided the Kaplan-Meier survival analysis for the kidney transplant program;
developed clinical quality improvement analysis for a broad range of projects and special studies using statistical tools
such as logistic regression modeling, Fishers exact test and others; he designed and maintained Hospital Performance Measurement
System with standardized reporting and automated statistical significance for a JCAHO Performance Measurement System; plus
he was responsible for administering several servers running NT, IIS, SAS Intrnet, a Clinical Data Repository, and more.
Dr Ott has held several
prestigious director/manager positions with Ingenix, Inc in Salt Lake City, Utah, Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane,
WA and Blue Shield of Idaho in Lewiston, ID.
